I've been absent from the internet posting world yet again. This time for a really good reason. THe reason being that I've finally started moving forward full speed with my photog business. I have a new blog for it here--->Laura Keeton Photography Yup! Check it out!
Also I'm back in school and that is taking some serious hours out of my day and serious energy out of my body. By the end of the days I really just wanna curl up and snooooooze!

On an awesome note, I just printed my first two prints in digi-photography tonight. It feels great seeing my prints huge again. Too long, man, too long!

I am now off to do some of the curling and snoozing I mentioned before! tata, loves!

I burned my finger in a hot spoon earlier today and just a bit ago while trying to write I realised that my cursive looks like that of a 5 year old tyrannosaurus-Rex. Yeah, it hurts and is going to cause problems during my work day tomorrow. *RARRRRR*

I'm going to be going back to school in a couple of weeks. I'm finally going to move forward with my Photography degree. I have spent countless years complaining about how long it would take all the while not taking ANY classes to get there. Had I been taking just two classes a term I would have been done a long time ago.
So, yes, it is time to get off my duff and get back in the game. I will be taking Digital photography and a sadly needed math course this term as well as a weekend course that is a Field Workshop on the Monterey Peninsula. Basically one long weekend filled with photographers and picture-taking (and the BEACH).
I have been shopping around online for studio lighting. Something simple to start off with. Maybe a couple umbrellas/stands and some strobes. I want to be able to do some higher quality portraits.

So, I wound up with a lovely Black Saturn ION instead of the other cars I mentioned.
Here name is Chloe and she has already made her first roadtrip to Portland, Oregon.

I couldn't wait to get her out on the road. I have been itching for some nice quiet "ME" time for a while now and what better way to get that than to drive for 10 hours (each way. uphill, in the snow :] lol)

I am a waster of time to an epic degree but I'm getting better. I've actually not been online much the past few weeks so that has been a heeyoog help. What have I been doing instead, you ask? Well, let's see: -Taking oodles of photos that I have yet to have the time to edit. -Prepping myself mentally and physically for The Master Cleanse.
-Prepping myself for big changes at work.

-Saving money for a car. (I've decided against the VW Beetle and am now leaning toward a Mazda3

-Watching the entire 1st Season of "The Big Bang Theory"

-Enjoying my life.

Yup, times are good and getting better. I've learned how to bring my own fun wherever I go instead of hoping someone/thing else does. I've learned that it's not necessarily about finding what you are "good" at but it is definitely about finding what you are "happy" at.

I'm finding big pleasures in the tiniest of things lately. Maybe it's because I've stopped forcing action to please others. I've got to do what is right for ME!
It's a great time to be me. I love my job, I'm making new friends that really share interests with me, I'm making plans and I'm currently shopping for a new(er)car.
Yup! I'm looking to buy a VW Beetle! I'm so psyched! I want it to be black and have less than 70,000 miles on it. So yeah, not NEW exactly but a quality pre-owned vehicle. Seriously, this is huge for me. The newest car I've owned was a 1997 Ford Escort with 126,000 miles on it. I'm just shopping around for the primo deal.

Also, I'm getting prepped for my next tattoo. It's going to be the words "Carpe Diem" on my shoulders. In the front. My boss has a tattoo guy that he is going to talk to about cutting me a deal. It's going to be simple. Just black lettering, not too large. I'm in the process of drawing up the perfect lettering. I can't wait.

Holy absence, Batman!

I haven't updated this fandangled blog thing in YEARS!
I've been a busy bee over the past few months. I started a new job in December so that has been taking a lot of energy. I'm now working for a company called "Pathways", which is the local DUI school. Basically it's where the courts send people who have been convicted of a DUI charge and are court-ordered to take courses in DUI education/groups. I'm a Client Account Assistant. I'm the one that notifies the courts and DMV that they have enrolled and I also give them their schedule. Good times. I quite like it. It's still M-F 8-5. The best part of it is that I get benefits now. Medical/Dental/Life. That's a great thing. I don't remember the last time I had bennies!

In other news...I haven't been scrapping much lately because I've been crazy in love with resin! I've been making pendants and such. Here are a few examples:I'm in LOVE with the stuff! So fun! I do miss me some scrapping though. Gotta do some more stuff soon.

It's Friday which means I'm 100% alone, by myself, going solo at the ole office. Yup! I'm the only one that works Fridays but that's fine by me. There usually is no 'real' work to do, I'm merely here to answer questions, answer phones and be a body if someone comes by to pay a bill, etc. My bosses are cool with me bringing in my own stuff to work on. So, yes, it's Friday and I'm getting paid an hourly rate to sit and solder. You can't beat that with a stick. Plus, I got another raise that went into effect on my last paycheque so now I'm at $9ph. Not the best wage on the planet but there are, of course, still the perks I talked about before. You know, coffee, lunch ummmm getting paid to solder!! I'm working on new products for my shop. I also plan to do some late summer cleanout of my craft stuff. Over the years I've hoarded a bunch of things with the intentions of trying to art forms. Some of them stuck but most of them just GOT stuck in boxes. If you're looking for some new craft items/supplies be on the lookout in my etsy shop soon. Also if any of you are looking for something specific, just let me know and I'll see if I can accomodate the request.
In other news, I've been a busy little beaver (note to self:find the oregon shirt that says "proud to be the beaver state"...buy said shirt) as of late. The Yuba-Sutter Fair was last Wednesday through Sunday so I was busy photographing that. I have to photograph the sponsor signs with people around them, the pageants, livestock, exhibits, corndogs...you get the idea. It's not a high paying gig by any means but I get into the fair for free, usually get a bunch of free food and get some experience/exposure. Last year my photos made it onto the cover of the AT&T Yellow Pages! I'M ON THE PHONEBOOK! I AM SOMEBODY!!! (50 points for Gryffindor if you get that reference.)

You can see a few more over at my flickr. I took well over 1500 photos. I have, by no mean, even begun to really truly edit them. It's gonna take a while.
Other than that, life has been fine. My car is still dead but Jamie has a motorcycle and a jeep so I've been driving the jeep. Her best friend is getting married on September 6th and I'm doing the photography so I'm gathering ideas for that as well. If you see any really awesome wedding pics, definitely show me, I need some ideas. I've only done one wedding in my life.

HELLO LOVES!

I'm thinking of taking on a second job for a short time. I hate the idea of having to be one of those two jobs and a paying hobby to pay the bills type of folks but it will help. I mean, I'm not destitute but I'm tired of living hand-to-mouth. My boss works a side job as security/maintenance at concerts. She's been doing it for a couple of years now and said she could pretty much get me on no problem because they always need people. I actually may start as soon as next Friday. Crazy! A couple hundred extra bucks a month would be pretty nice. It'll get my little credit cards gone and then I'll just worry about the normal recurring monthly bills. You know, rent, food, utilities etc. yay!

With that out of the way, on to something a little more fun!
I did a scrapbook page for my love of photobooths!

I also decided to do a little painting. I'm currently addicted to ravens/crows and dark eerie imagery. I don't really paint much, it's not really my thing but every so often I get a wild hair and pick up the brushes. What do you think?

I'm no longer a 20something. I'm the big THREE OH! 30! I don't feel a dang bit of difference so either I still feel young or always felt old. I'm gonna go with the former.Forever 21, baby!

I worked my actual bday (tuesday) but went out to dinner and ice cream with Jamie afterward. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and salad. I'm a pretty simple girl. For dessert it was Marble Slab Ice Cream. I chose strawberry with fresh strawberries and bits of oreo cookie mixed in. YUM!
Thursday was spent hanging out with friends for weekly "family dinner night". We ate hot dogs and drank. I had wicked horrible cramps so felt like poo, sadly.
Yesterday morning I had my hair coloured and cut. It was actually the VERY first time I've had my hair coloured professionally.
I just had some streaks put it. It wasn't quite what I wanted but I guess it's okay. What do you think?

Last night I went to Chris and Heather's for a bit more grilling (tri-tip! NOM! NOM!) and gifts. They bought me an adorable bracelet watch with a pink skull and crossbones, nail decals, a chuck taylor shoe keychain with skulls and some adorable earrings! I also got a few drink chips for the next time I make it to the bar! WOot!

Tonight I'm meeting Jamie after work (6pm) and we're heading to Sacramento to do some clothes shopping!

1 Hour Mini Book

I DID IT!
I gathered all my items, layed them out, set my alarm to go off on my cell phone one hour later then got crackin!

I opted out on the book page since I don't have any books in the house to tear a page from. All my "scrap" books are in a box in storage. Oh well. I still kinda like it and I had 6 minutes of the hour to spare! Yaya!

dreaming puppy and other delights

Jäger is lying at my feet barking and whining in her sleep. Poor little girl is having a dream. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she has an 8am appointment tomorrow for the trim shop at the SPCA. And I don't mean she's getting a hair cut. Awwww. She's gonna be coming home all loppy-headed and wondering what in the heckfire I did to her. I feel bad already.
Isn't she so cute jumping all wild! She likes to run from the end of the hallway you see on the left and jump across the ottoman and onto the couch. She tends to start he jump too early, however, and nearly biffs it into the couch everytime. Haha!

I'm currently in the process (okay obviously I'm not actually working on it I'm blogging.) of printing photos and embellishments so that I can set my 1 hour timer and start the 1 Hour Mini Projec t from Leigh-Ann over at Freckled Nest! You should give it a go, too!
I'll post all about it once I'm done.

I'm sorry I've been so absent as of late. I've actually just been exhausted mentally. I'm working for an office that does taxes and bookkeeping/payroll. Tax season just ended on the 15th so it will be easy sailing from here on out. Honestly, though, I stare at a computer all day and have internet access for emails and what not at work but I don't have access to my creative stuffs that are on my home compy. Then, once I get home, I'm so bored of the comp that I have no enegy to bother with the net. *oh boo hoo me, I get to surf the web at work* save it, I know I'm a whiny baby. *pffft*

I'm sorry I haven't been updating much. Things haven't been the greatest on the home front.
My GF and I broke up. I'm not taking it well. I guess, deep down, I know everything will turn out the way it is supposed to but that never makes it easier. I've been trying to stay busy with Christmas shopping and today I was doing a bit of decorating but it's hard, still.
I'm still looking for work, too. That just means I have even more time to think about things.
I'm going to be putting a lot of my items from my stash up on Etsy soon. Some deco tapes, HEllo Kitty Bento boxes, etc.

Okay, so it's not really dead exactly. Just out of ink. But right now, when I'm broke and home sick, it may as well be dead. That's right! I was up at 5:30am today because I had to take my gf to work and when I got home it was hard to go back to sleep. So, instead, I scrapped a page for my kitty, Sadie.
Sadie is kind of a moody cat. Okay, Sadie is kind of a b#@*h. Yeah. She growls at everyone and everything and has to be the center of attention. She also likes to snatch food right out of your mouth. Yeah, she's a sweetheart! /end sarcasm.
But that doesn't mean she isn't the cutest kitty E.V.A.R.!

craft fair items

I'm trying to decide whether or not to sell 1" buttons at my craft fair table. I guess it will come down to how much table space I have once I've decided how I'm going to lay everything out.

Soldering can kiss my booty!
I wish I put it aside to do some scrapping but I'm way too close to the craft fair not to be making stock items. I just couldn't make myself plug that soldering puppy in, though. So, I decided to do some beading instead. I haven't done that in ages.

Friday nights are reserved for High School Football lately. My GF's nephew plays so we go to watch him and cheer him on. Of course I have my camera (most of the time. I forgot it because I was rushing this last time). Here are a few pics. I'm saving these pics to scrap as wall pieces for Christmast gifts for his mom and uncle.

I also found a few old photographs from my darkroom days. I miss the darkroom. I should sign up for a lab class just to get some prints off.
These pics are of my old roommate, Adam. I put out a goth calendar in 2000. I don't think I even have a copy of it anymore. Sad.

I'm getting all nail-bitey! I have that Christmas In November Craft Fair coming up and I'm neeerrrrrvous! Although I know it is mainly for getting my name out there and for the experience, I am still worried that my stuff won't sell and I'll be all bummed afterward. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed. If I could teach the cats and dog to cross their toes, I would. hehe
Right now I'm focusing on getting samples of what various customised ornaments would look like. I've made a couple using Jamie's niece and nephew in them. Once the event is over, I'll give them to Jamie's sister. Jamie's sister, Sabrina, is actually the one in charge of the event. She's the assistant to the CEO of the YS Fair Board. So Sabrina handles the applications and all that jazz. She also decided where all the vendor were placed. She put me in the second best spot. The best spot is taken by this vendor that is there every year. I'll be the second one in from the front door and next to the food. It's actually between the food and the bathroom. So people will pass it often. Hooray!
I've also got to start focusing on the booth's appearance. I have to make a sign/banner and get some nice display options. I have a couple of mini Christmas trees to put on the ends and I'm thinking Jamie and I will make frames then line them with black velvet or felt and pin pendants to them. Lots of thinking to do!

In other news, I went to Bishop's Pumpkin Farm in Wheatland last Saturday. It was Jamie, Sabrina, Sabrina's DH Eddie and their kids, Jamie and Adreona. It was nice and colourful for photo-taking. Here are a few of the best shots:

I know I said it last time but ... HONESTLY, I've been seriously deprived of full-on scrapbook time lately. BooHoo, huh. Woe is me! Haha. Actually, it's okay because I've been spending the time making soldered pendants and ornaments for the Christmas In November Craft Fair! I'm nervous as all heck about it since it's my first craft fair. I'm the worst ever when it comes to selling myself. Luckily my GF, Jamie, will be there with me. She's a metric ton better at talking to people than I am. Here's a little sneak peak at what I've been working on:

Also, I've been cleaning out some of the craft supplies that I've been hoarding over the past few years. I'm going to be putting some things up in Silent Star Arts Etsy Shop over the course of the next week or two. Right now I'm getting all my deco tapes up there. It's crazy just how quickly deco tapes sell. Quick quick quick!

I've been a busy beaver trying to get soldered pendants and ornaments ready for the Christmas in November Craft Fair next month so I haven't had much time to do any scrapping. I did have some free time tonight and was able to get a page done.
I decided to try the hot trend that is a 6x12 page. It was odd dealing with such a different shape/size but it was fun. I'm not yet sure if it's my favourite but maybe I'll do some more. First I need to figure out where to store a page this size. I only have 8x8 and 12x12 albums right now. hmmmm. Guess I need to go shopping.
Anyhow, here it is: I used only Basic Grey (cirlce edge, rocket ship) and Making Memories (Green polka dots) patterned papers. The star pattern behind the photo is material from the Wal-Mart scrap bin.

I just made this one tonight.
I was hoping to get more than just one LO done but I had to work on soldered/clay pendants for my shop. I have the Christmas In November event coming up in just over a month so I need to seriously beef up my stock stat!
But here is the page I did do:

I used papers from Love, Elsie, DYMO lettering, handstitching, my own writing, buttons from WalMart and clip art from Somerset Studios artist paper.

I just got myself some lovely new papers from the Scrapbook Station in Roseville! I'm kind of smitten! They're all so gorgeous and right up my alley when it comes to style! All I have here in town as far as scrapbook shopping is Michael's, Joann Fabric and one little local shop with a small selection. Everything is a bit more along the "hausfrau" lines than I prefer. I find a few decent things but not many of the funky sheets I like the most. I can't wait to use them all!

Freak is one year old! What a big boy!

My girlfriend's cat, Freak, turned a year old on September 24th!

The colours on this scan came out really off. I'm gonna try to get some decent photos using my camera tomorrow. The background paper should be bright yellow and that cloth tape where it says "Birthday Boy" is really fluorescent ORANGE! hmmmm. Darned scanner settings. I'm a fool with that thing.
I actually repurposed a few items on this layout. The frame on the photo was originally the card backing for the dog brush I bought today. I just cut out the inside and had a lovely chipboard frame left over. The three glittery circles on the right are leaves I cut from a Christmas pick for plants that I bought at Michael's. Fun stuff!

I figured I'd start this puppy off with a few pics of my first pages. There aren't many yet. I actually have yet to fill my first album. Off we go. . . . . .

I have a few more pages done but have to wait for decent daylight to get pics of them. I'm currently working in the 8x8 format because 12x12 is a bit daunting. I like the new trend in 6x12 lo's but I'm not really sure what people are doing with them when they are done? Can you get pages/books that size?
